The countdown is on!

Will I get everything done?  That’s yet to be seen actually.  I’m going to do my best.  FYI, there are 21 days of school left.  Less if you only work 4 days a week.  Also less if you are a senior.  I don’t want to think about that.

I did, finally, take some photos of projects that have been created in the art room.

This post will focus on an idea I got from Kids Artists blog.   Great blog.

I took photos of the kids, changed them to sketches in a computer program (picnik) and then printed them for each student.  Prior to giving them their pictures, we talked about facial proportion and how human faces are laid out.  Then we looked at our photos and talked about what lines were important when drawing a face.  I had them trace, first with pencil, then with Sharpie, only the most important lines (ie: not drawing completely AROUND the nose, but the bottom of the nose and maybe a vertical line down the middle).  We then traced only the most important lines onto a new paper, went over them with sharpie and painted them in fun colors (after a mini lesson on “pop” art).  We cut them out and mounted them on wallpaper from a sample book.  It was a really fun project and it gets LOTS of comments from others in the school (it’s on display in the hallway right now).  Fun project and a great way to learn about facial proportion and pop art (Thanks Kids Artists!!).
